Founded: 2008

Jewelry by Johan is a family-owned, Minnesota-based online retailer and manufacturer of traditional and unconventional jewelry featuring natural elements that include meteorite, dinosaur bone, antler and exotic wood. The company specializes in wedding bands, engagement rings, and wedding accessories.

Jewelry by Johan began as Johan Rust's one-man shop on Etsy in 2008; the company now employs 30 full-time employees, including Johan's daughter, Leanne Kolodziej, and son-in-law, Kevin Kolodziej. The creation of Jewelry by Johan was driven by Rust's passion to create with his hands and consumer demand for wedding jewelry that better-represented an individual's personal style than an all-metal ring.

The company is a full-service jewelry design and manufacturing company that has 4,000 annual orders. Services include, but are not limited to, expert design consultation, CAD, 3-D modeling, casting, stone setting, jewelry repair, laser engraving, and resizing.

Operating primarily as an online retailer through the jewelrybyjohan Etsy shop and jewelrybyjohan.com, the company ships both domestically and internationally. Its storefront, corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility is located within the same building located at 553 Hayward Avenue North, Oakdale, MN.

Key employees include:
Johan Rust, Owner/Founder/Designer
Kevin Kolodziej, General Manager/Designer/Johan's Son-in-law
Leanne Kolodziej, Office Manager/Designer/Johan's Daughter

In March of 2016, Jewelry by Johan and its custom deer antler rings were featured on NBC's Minnesota Bound, an outdoor lifestyle television program.

In August of 2016, the company gained national attention after Chris Hardwick, host of AMC's The Talking Dead, credited them through social media with the creation of his meteorite, antler, and dinosaur bone wedding band purchased by and given to him by his wife, Lydia Hearst.
